Bio

Viola Joines Funeral services for Viola Joines, 88, of Wharton, were held Tuesday at Wharton Funeral Home with Gene Polvado officiating. Interment followed in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Joines died April 25, 1998, in Wharton. She was born Feb. 6, 1910, in Pulaski, Tenn., to Dan W. and Rosa Bell Register Barnett. She was a homemaker and a 72-year resident of Wharton County having lived in Hungerford and Wharton. Mrs. Joines married Joe W. Joines Sr. on September 24, 1927, in Wharton, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 17, 1980. She was a member of Abell Street Church of Christ. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Betty of Porter and Ruth Marie Miller of Wharton; sons and daughters-in-law, Joe W. and Joyce Joines Jr. of Boling and William "Billy" Joines and wife of Wharton; sister, Pauline Dawson of San Angelo; brothers, Edward Barnett and Jim Barnett, both of San Angelo; 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by three sisters, four brothers and one grandson. Pallbearers were Joe Ray Joines, Bill Joines, Tom Joines, Jon Joines, Gary Joines, Mike Joines, Johnny Lowe, Terry Lowe and Leonard Miller Jr. Honorary pallbearers were Roger Poole, Home Lowe, Max Brod, Delbert Brod, Freddie Mask and Terry Janik.
