Nancy was the daughter of George W and Louisa Tackett. She married Bill Cook in Tishomingo County on October 12, 1854, and moved with him to Upshur County Texas shortly thereafter. The three children born in Texas were: Mary Louise Elizabeth-Sept. 9, 1855 (Edward P Johnson) Sarah Melissa-Mar 7, 1858 (Lum Byse) Carmelett Deborah Joneh-July 22, 1860 (d. at 18 mos.) The family returned to Tishomingo County after the death of Carrmalett and settled at a site on Yellow Creek, now under Pickwick Lake near Goat Island. Children born in Mississippi were: William Albert-Feb 18, 1866 (never married) Etha Jane-Dec 30, 1868 (J D Osborn) George Ann Virginia-Feb 11, 1871 (Albert J Gray) Rebecca Howel-Aug 10, 1874 (Elige D Borden) James Napoleon-Dec 16, 1878 (Margaret Melinda Pack) Nancy outlived her husband Bill Cook by thirty four years, and had a second marriage: Dec 4, 1887 to Jack Wallace in Tishomingo, MS. All that is known about this second marriage is the marriage document itself. Jack might have been in the 1890 census, but those records burned. By 1900, Nancy was a widow again. She then moved back to Texas, this time to Erath County, to live with her son James Napoleon Cook. By 1910, she and Poley had returned to their old Bill Cook home on Yellow Creek in Mississippi. There she lived out the remainder of her life near family and friends. She was buried in nearby Hubbard-Salem cemetery, next to her first husband and father of her children, Bill Cook, and near her sister Etha and her brother Thomas. Nancy's birth date is from the family bible.
