Winston E. Hervey, 90, of Amarillo died Friday, Aug. 31, 2012. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Saint Paul United Methodist Church with the Rev. Perry Hunsaker officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Winston, the best dad in the world, was born Aug. 20, 1922, in Marlow, Okla., to Edwin Eugene and Merle Graham Hervey. He graduated from Capitol Hill High School. At an early age, Winston worked for Veasey Drug as a bicycle delivery boy. He was a sergeant in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Winston later worked for Hal Owen portrait studio in Levine's department store in downtown Amarillo. He opened Hervey Studios on Hobbs. Winston flunked retirement and began doing maintenance for Saint Paul United Methodist Church. He retired again and then opened Discount Vanities. Winston was twice named Kiwanian of the Year of the South Kiwanis Club, volunteered for Meals on Wheels for more than 30 years and was a charter member of Saint Paul United Methodist Church. He also was the president of Wheels-A-GoGo RV Club and a member of the Saints and Spinners Round Dance Club. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Don and Robert Hervey; and a sister, Leona Wade. Survivors include his children, John Hervey and wife Karol of Pampa, Richard Hervey and wife Valerie of Corvallis, Ore., Mary Loyd and husband Richard of Albuquerque, N.M., and Russell Hervey and wife Rhonda of Amarillo; a sister, Rachel Garrette of Oklahoma City; a brother, Carl Hervey of Edmond, Okla.; an uncle, Wilson Hervey; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
