Bruno, March 27 - Funeral services for John A. Stava, 79 years and 9 months of age, who passed away at his home in Bruno Tuesday morning, March 21, after illness of a week with pneumonia, were held from the home to St. Anthony's Catholic church, Bruno, Thursday morning, March 23, Rev. Father Kvitek saying the Requiem Mass and conducting the burial rites. The music was by St. Anthony's church choir with Mrs. Charles Jindrich organist. The pallbearers were Thomas Rerucha Sr., Joseph A. Kozisek, Thomas Pelan Sr., William Kozisek, Thomas W. Rerucha and Louis Rerucha. Interment was in St. Anthony's Catholic cemetery. In attendance at the funeral from elsewhere were Frank Bouzek and Frank Faytinger from Linwood, Mrs. R. C. Stanek and son, Ernest, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Behne and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Skoda from Brainard. John A. Stava was born in Moravia, Czecho-Slovakia on June 21, 1853, son of Mr. and Mrs. Anton Stava. He came to Butler county in 1874, locating on a farm near Bruno, where he lived until retiring from farm-life and moving to Bruno some years ago. He was united in marriage to Miss Josephine Bouzek at Sts. Peter's and Paul's church, Abie, January 27, 1879. To this union 11 children were born, five of whom preceded their father in death. Surviving Mr. Stava, are Mrs. Stava, who is an invalid, five sons and one daughter, namely: Joseph Stava and Robert Stava of Bruno, Albert Stava of Rising City, James Stava of Weston and Mrs. Charles Hoskovec of Omaha. The deceased children are Anton, John, Verna, Frances and Marie. Mr. Stava, who was an energetic, hard-working man was one of Butler county's early pioneers and had a wide circle of friends who mourn his passing. During his last illness he was faithfully cared for by his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Stava.
