Funeral services were conducted at St. Mary's Catholic Church Saturday morning, Nov. 18, with the Rev. Charles Kelliher officiating. LeRoy Svoboda, Carol Zimmer, Jerome Svoboda, Edward R. Wachal, David Aerts, and Wm. Riha, Jr., were pallbearers. Burial was in St. Francis Cemetery (Center). Mary Gertrude Theewen, daughter of Mathew and Johanna Sanders Theewen, was born March 16, 1888, at Atkinson, Nebr. She moved to Butler county at the age of three years with her parents. On Jan. 5, 1908, she was married at St. Francis Church (Center) to Frank W. Aerts, and 11 children were born to this union. For 41 years they lived on the same farm in Center Township before retiring and moving to David City 11 years ago. Mrs. Aerts was a member of the St. Mary's and St. Francis Altar Societies. She is survived by ten children, Mrs. Cecilia Svoboda of Columbus; Mrs. William Riha, Mrs. Bill Samek, Mrs. Art Kosch, Theodore Aerts, Leo Aerts, Mrs. Joe Hladky, William Aerts, and Frank L. Aerts of David City; and Mrs. Leonard Darnell of Sargeant, Minn.; 37 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Martin Theewen of David City, Bill Theewen of Lincoln, and Frank Theewen of Cedar Rapids; and a sister, Mrs. Henry Phillips, of David City. Preceding her in death were her husband, Frank, and one son, James.
