Bio

Helen M. Riha, 98, of David City, died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2010, at the Butler County Health Care Center in David City. Funeral Mass will be held Friday, at 10 a.m., at St. Mary's Church, in David City, with Father Bernard Kimminau officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Viewing will be Thursday, 3-7 p.m. at Chermok Funeral Home followed by a 7 p.m. PCCW rosary, also at the funeral home. Visitation continues Friday, one hour before services at the church. Children: William, Ron, Betty Jane (Wachal), Bonnie, Connie Memorials may be given in care of the family. Helen M. Aerts was born on May 27, 1912, to Frank and Mae (Theewen) Aerts on the farm near St. Francis (Center) Church. She married William Riha on May 27, 1934, at St. Francis Church (Center). They lived in the Butler County area all of their married lives. Five children were born to this union. Helen was a member of St. Mary's Church and the PCCW She was also involved with the St. Joseph's Villa Quilters. She was a NASCAR fan and especially loved Jeff Gordon. She also loved Nebraska football, gardening, canning, and being with family. She is survived by her sons, William (Mary Jane) Riha, of Seward, Ron Riha, of Emmetsburg, Iowa, daughters, Betty Jane Wachal, of Schuyler, and Bonnie Riha, of David City; one brother, Frank (MaryAnn) Aerts, of Columbus; and one sister, Darlene (Leonard) Darnell, of Brownsdale, Minn.; 13 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great grandchildren. Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William, in 1992; infant daughter, Connie; son-in-law, Edward R. Wachal; four brothers, James, Ted, Bill and Leo Aerts; four sisters, Cecilia Svoboda, Elizabeth Kosch, Dorothy Samek, and Henrietta Hladky. Arrangements by Chermok Funeral Home in David City
