Great Falls Tribune (MT), 28 Feb 1981 Stanley R. Nees Poplar--Stanley R. Nees, 77, 18-year member of the Montana Senate, was found shot to death at his Poplar home Thursday. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church in Poplar. Burial will be in Poplar City Cemetery. Nees was born in 1903, in Cando, N. D., and was raised and educated in Douglas, N. D., later moving to a homestead in the Mineral Bench community north of Poplar. He married Alma Klein at Poplar in 1925. Nees was Roosevelt county commissioner from 1951 to 1956. He was elected to the state Senate as a Democrat in 1957 and served until he retired in 1975. Active in community affairs, Nees was also an elder in the First Presbyterian Church. His wife died in April 1980, after a long illness. Survivors include a son, Jack, Scobey; a daughter, Mrs. Mary Marlene Fallis, Branch, Ark.; two brothers, Harold, Poplar, and Guy, Kansas City, Kan.; sisters, Lois Murphy and Mildred Sutherland, both of Calif., Grace Flaseth of Billings, LaVerne Klein and Dorothy Sprue, both of Dallas, Texas, and Mrs. Corlea Marshall, Kalispell; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Services are pending for Leota Hoye and Mildred Geer, who were also found dead in the Nees home. Contributor: cara (47072115)
