Bio

Prominent Butler Pioneer, Founder of Bruno, Is Dead James Blatny, 63, since 1874 resident of Butler county, and since 1890 a prominent resident of Bruno, died at his home in that village, Saturday, following a heart attack, from which he had suffered slightly for some time. However, Mr. Blatny had been enjoying good health up to the hour of the attack, and passed away in a very short time. Mr. Blatny was a native of Moravia, and as a young man came to this country in 1874, locating at Linwood. In April 1889, he was united in marriage to Mary Kriz, at North Bend, and for a year following this union, the home was near Linwood. In 1880 he moved his family to Bruno, and continued up to the hour of his death as one of the most respected and active citizens of that locality. He served as a member of the first city council, or village board, was responsible in a large measure of incorporating the village, and organizing the C.S.P.S. and Z.C.B.J. lodges of that place. He was also active in organizing the Bohemian National Cemetery association of Bruno, and all through the years of his residence of that locality had devoted much of this time in public and fraternal work. The deceased is survived by his wife and 3 children, Mrs. J.V. Roh of Valparaiso; Mrs. A.D. Ussery of Denver, Colo; and Anton Blatny of Omaha, and one sister, Mrs. Frank Bartos of Omaha. The funeral services were held Saturday, with Rev. B.A. Fillipi of Clarkson officiating, and interment in the Bohemian cemetery at Bruno. In his early active years Mr. Blatny followed farming, and was very successful, and for the past several years has devoted his time to real estate and in attempting to make this a better place to live.
