Bio

OGG, JOHN W.—John Wesley Ogg was born near Richmond, Ky., August 4, 1847. He moved at an early age with his parents to Sangamon county, Illinois, where he grew to manhood. He was married in 1873 to Martha L. Groves at Scottville, Ill. To this union were born five children, only one of who survives, Mrs. James R. McCashland of Chugwater, Wyo. In 1887 he united with the Methodist church of Scottville, Ill., transferring his membership to the Methodist church at Geneva, Neb., when he moved here with his family in 1897. In 1913 he moved to his homestead at Chug water, Wyo., where he passed away at 8:30 p.m., May 24, 1916, aged 68 years, 9 months, and 20 days. He is survived by his wife and the one daughter, two sisters, Mrs. J.H. Newell of Lyndon, Kas., and Mrs. W.A. Hosack of Chugwater, Wyo., and five brothers, B.B. and G.W. of Geneva, W.L. of San Diego, Cal., J.A. of Auburn, Ill., and F.T. of Springfield, Ill. He became a member of the I.O.O.F. lodge in 1868 and of the M.W.A. in 1888. He held his membership in the Geneva lodges at the time of his death. Besides his relatives, he leaves a large number of friends and acquaintances to mourn his death. The body arrived in Geneva Saturday morning. The funeral took place from the Methodist Episcopal church in Geneva at 3:30 p.m. Saturday and was conducted by Rev. W.L. Austin. The interment was in the Geneva cemetery. The Odd Fellows were in charge of the funeral arrangements and the members of the M.W.A. lodge attended the funeral. Nebraska Signal 01 JUN 1916 pg 2
