Oakley Graphic, Wed. May 30, 2001 Fred Grundmeyer, 80, Oakley, died on Sat. May 26 at Hays Medical Center, Hays. He was born on Aug. 18, 1920 in Rayville, NE to William Grundmeyer and Mary Surmeier Grundmeyer. Fred moved to Oakley in August of 1999 coming from Denver, CO where he lived since 1949. He married Evelyn Soldat in 1949 in Denver, CO. He owned and operated Grundmeyer Feed, a retail feed store for farm animals and pets. He retired in 1996. Fred was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Oakley and was a World War II veteran. Survivors include 2 sons, Ken of Denver and Wayne of Oakley; brother Conrad Grundmeyer of Oelwein, IA; 2 sisters: Martha Recker, Lamont, IA; and Loreanna Esch, Merna, NE; 2 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Memorial service will be held Thurs. May 31 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, with Fr. Roger K. Meitl officiating. There will be no visitation. The body was cremated.
