'''''''''''''''''''''' The Brainard Clipper (Brainard, Nebr.), April 5, 1934, p. 5, col. 4 & 5 Deaths Grandma Anna Pokorny passed away at six-thirty Sunday morning, April 1, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mary Korinek in Brainard. Although a sufferer from a chronic diabetic condition for a long time, she was able to be about until five days prior to her passing, when she became bedfast. Funeral services were conducted at the Korinek home by Rt. Rev. Msgr. A. Klein on Monday morning at nine o'clock. The remains were then taken to Dwight where services were held at Assumption Catholic church at ten o'clock, Rev. Bauer officiating. Burial was in the Assumption cemetery beside the grave of her husband. Six grandsons of the deceased acted as pallbearers. They were Alex and Edward Korinek, George and Albert Pokorny, Ivan Pokorny and Robert Maixner. Mrs. Pokorny was a member of the Rosary Society of the Assumption parish. Mrs. Pokorny's maiden name was Anna Veronika Vesely. She was born in Moravia June 16, 1856, and she grew to womanhood there and was married to Vendelin Pokorny in 1876. Coming to America they lived for several years in Saunders county near Prague then moved to Dwight. Here they resided for thirty-four years. Following Mr. Pokorny's death in 1924 Mrs. Pokorny went to Waverly to reside with her son, Anton, remaining until five years ago since which time she has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Korinek in Brainard. Mrs. Pokorny is survived by four sons, Anton of Waverly, Joseph of Dwight, John of Omaha and Ludvik of Valparaiso; three daughters, Mrs. Mary Korinek of Brainard, Mrs. Joseph (Tillie) Kubista of Weston and Mrs. Jerry (Anna) Maixner of Brainard. She also leaves a sister, Mrs. Mary Stava of Dwight, besides thirty grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. ___ CARD OF THANKS We extend our sincere thanks to all friends, neighbors and relatives for their many acts of kindness during the illness of our dear mother, grandmother and sister, and for the help and sympathy shown us at time of her death; we also express our appreciation of the spiritual and floral offerings.
