Bio

Leona Lillian Hajovsky Kristek, 86, of Baytown, passed peacefully into God's Eternal Kingdom Saturday morning, August 25, 2012 surrounded by her daughters at home. Leona was born on June 6, 1926, in La Grange, Texas; she was the daughter of Adolph and Antonia Hajovsky. She grew up with ten brothers; Edmund, Jimmie, George, Adolph Jr., Albert, Frank, Charlie, Joe, Bernard and Bennie; and two sisters, Marie Ryza and Henrietta Neiser. Leona was blessed to have attended the Hajovsky family reunion in July 2012 with her surviving brother Bennie Hajovsky and wife Louise of Brenham and her sister, Henrietta Neiser of Houston. Leona married Bennie Kristek (deceased) on May 20, 1946 and was a devoted wife to Bennie for forty-nine years of marriage. After their wedding, they moved to Baytown where they raised their family. Leona guided her family toward a strong Catholic faith and lived that faith by serving others in a gentle and humble way. Leona is survived by her children: Janice Henderson and husband Richard of Baytown; Karen Ehlig and husband John of Kingwood; Lori Entringer and husband Mark of Liberty Lake, WA; and Annette Higgins and husband Paul of Houston. Leona ("NaNa") also leaves behind eleven grandchildren: Kristen, Kyle and Karli Henderson; Lauren Ehlig Shea and husband Danny; Andrew Ehlig and fiance' Lauren Sullivan; David Ehlig; Ashley, Amanda and Coleman Entringer; Bennie and Caroline Higgins; and one great-granddaughter, Mary Katherine Shea. Leona loved her grandchildren dearly; they brought her great happiness! She enjoyed attending graduations, sporting events, concerts and dance recitals and was always quick to offer words of encouragement and praise. Leona once wrote that her greatest accomplishments in life were raising four children who obtained college degrees and having eleven grandchildren. As a mother, Leona raised her daughters with patience and love. They were brought up knowing about their Czech heritage and her life of growing up on a big family farm. We will always cherish the memories of our mother sitting in her favorite chair saying her daily prayers, wonderful homemade dinners, funny stories about her many travels, and her sweet smile and hugs. Leona was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Baytown for sixty-six years. She served her church faithfully as a long-standing member of the Altar Society, the Catholic Family Fraternal of Texas (K.J.Z.T.) and the Legion of Mary in which she made hospital visits for several years. She cooked numerous meals for church events and prepared altar linens. Leona loved her lifelong friends in Baytown and cherished her time with them while traveling with senior groups, playing Bingo, and attending church functions. As Leona's earthly life has ended, we can only say, "Well done, my good and faithful servant. We will forever miss you, but will carry a part of you with us always, for you have touched our family in a special way and modeled for us a life of humble and charitable works." The family wishes to thank SEV Home Care and Harbor Hospice for helping our Mother live her final days with dignity and grace. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial contributions be directed to Saint Joseph Catholic School at 1811 Carolina Street, Baytown, TX 77520, or the charity of your choice. Her family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home Tuesday beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1907 Carolina St., Baytown, TX 77520 with Rev.
