BERNARD HAJOVSKY GONZALES - Bernard Hajovsky passed into the hands of his Savior Jesus Christ on March 26, 2008. He was born on Nov. 20, 1928, in the family home in Holman, to Adolph Hajovsky, Sr. , and Antonia Muzny Hajovsky , the twelfth of thirteen children. As a young man, he joined the family tradition of owning a Western Auto store and moved to Gonzales in 1948 to start his business, which he operated until 1994. On Nov. 7, 1949 he was married to Loretta Kristek , who preceded him in death on March 10, 1992. Together they raised their family of seven children. In 1993, he married JoAnn Kuntschik LaFleur in Gonzales. In a life of service to God and his community, Bernard was an active member of St. James Catholic Church. He was instrumental in reestablishing the Fr. James Council of Knights of Columbus in the 1950's. Bernard served as the first Grand Knight and in later years served a second term as Grand Knight. He was a member of the Yoakum Assembly of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, the KJT, St. James Choir, the Gonzales ACTS retreat team, and served in many capacities on parish councils and building and finance committees. In the community Bernard was involved with the Gonzales Noon Lions Club, having served a term as president, was a charter member and director of the Gonzales Area Development Board, Chamber of Commerce, Director of Gonzales Bank and Scout Master of Troop 262. He is survived by his wife, JoAnn Hajovsky of Gonzales; daughters, Elaine Brzozowski (Donnie) of Gonzales, Jeanette Collins (Scott) of Denton, Judy Ealand and Lori Hajovsky of Austin, Bonnie Barton (James) of Victoria; his sons, Bernie (Nancy) of Cuero and David (Vickie) of New Braunfels; 16 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Kevin LaFleur (Debbie) of Gonzales, Jeffrey LaFleur of Dallas, Mark LaFleur (Marinela) of Elgin, Paula LaFleur (Tony Matias) of Gonzales, Bobby LaFleur (Tyree) of Gonzales; and 10 step-grandchildren. Other survivors include his sisters, Leona Kristek of Baytown, Henrietta Neiser of Houston; and brothers, George Hajovsky (Anna Mae) of La Grange and twin brother, Benjamin Hajovsky (Louise) of Brenham. Besides his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Ryza ; brothers, Adolph, Jr., Albert, Jimmy, Joe , Edmund , Frank , and Charlie . A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. this evening at St. James Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 29 at 10:00 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church with Fr. Jim Kotara and Fr. Paul Raaz concelebrating. Interment will follow at St. James Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. today at St. James Catholic Church. Honorary pallbearers: granddaughters: Angie , Marci , Bridgette , Brandy , Madison , and Grace ; great-grandchildren: Peyton , Braden , Brooke , and Sabine ; step-grandchildren: Justin, Courtney, Audrie, Jacob, Kaitlyn, Cassidy, Nicole, Curt, Hanna, and Faith ; and members of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 5090. Memorials may be made to the Knights of Columbus No. 5090, the St. James Choir, Gonzales ACTS Community, St. James Catholic Church, and the American Cancer Society.
