Bio

Mary Krejci, youngest of 10 children of Frank and Barbara Krejci, was born April 15, 1878, in the village of Zbyrov, in Bohemia. At the age of one year she came to the United States with her immigrant parents, who settled on a farm four miles north of the site upon which the town of Milligan was later founded, in Fillmore County, Nebraska. In January, 1900, she was married to Frank Hranac, a harness and hardware store operator at Geneva, Neb. Here their four children were born. Her husband’s health forced his retirement from the business in 1913. His death came in February, 1922, at Geneva. Thereafter, with the exception of four years, during which she maintained living quarters in Lincoln for her son Charles, then attending the University of Nebraska, she continued to reside in Geneva until 1945, when she moved to David City to make her home with her son, Joe. During her residence in Fillmore County, she was a member of the St. Wenceslaus Church at Milligan, then of St. Joseph Church at Geneva. Upon going to David City, she became a member of St. Mary’s Church. Mrs. Hranac was fond of flowers. She delighted in quietly helping people of her community who were in need of help. She had many friends in Fillmore County, whom she liked to visit. Her death occurred November 22, 1957, at the David City Hospital. She was ill only a short time. Rosary was held at the Knott Funeral Home there Sunday, November 24. Funeral services were held at St. Joseph Catholic Church at Geneva, Monday, November 25. Interment was beside the grave of her husband in the Geneva Cemetery. Pallbearers were Fred Krejci, Charles Krejci, Harold McDonald, Carl Schneider, Otto Schmidt and John Votipka. Mrs. Hranac is survived by a brother, John Krejci Sr. of Exeter; her four children, Frank V. Hranac of Washington, D.C.; Joseph C. Hranac of David City; M. Edith Hranac of Washington, D. C.; and Dr. Charles E. Hranac of Cozad, Neb., all of whom were in attendance at the funeral. Mrs. Hranac is also survived by five grandchildren; one great-grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.
