Bio

Thanks to Contributor M. Jensen Seggerman, #47078678, for the following: John Krejci Sr., the son of Frank and Barbara (Krumphanse) Krejci, was born in the village of Zbirov, Czechoslovakia, April 18, 1868. He passed away March 30, 1959, at Warren Memorial Hospital at Friend, Neb., after an illness of over two months, at the age of 90 years, 11 months and 12 days. In 1879, at the age of 11 he came with his immigrant parents to Fillmore County, Nebraska. They settled on a farm five miles north of the site upon which the town of Milligan was later founded. As a boy he helped his parents with the farm work and went through all the hardship of pioneer days until he grew to manhood. In October, 1893, he was united in marriage to Anna Kucera and they started their farming on the same farm owned by his parents. He continued to live on the same farm until the last week of January, 1959, when he was taken to the Friend hospital, where he passed away. Mr. Krejci was a true pioneer, and always worked hard. He was a kind and loving father and grandfather. He enjoyed good music and in the last years enjoyed working his garden and also enjoyed visiting his relatives, friends and neighbors. His parents, four sisters and five brothers; and his wife preceded him in death. Mr. Krejci is survived by five children, Charles of Fairmont; Bessie, Mrs. Albert Biba, of Exeter; Fred, Louis and Anna Mae, all of Exeter; also four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held from the Milligan auditorium Wednesday, April 1, at 2 p.m., with Rev. Harold Dodson of Exeter officiating. Mrs. Herman Michl and Robert Kassik sang, "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Kazdy Nese Svuj Kriz" in Czech. Burial was in the Bohemian National Cemetery, beneath a beautiful blanket of floral tributes. Pallbearers were Edward Votipka, Fred Votipka, John Krejci, Edward Krejci, Charles Kucera and Charles Schmidt. The Nebraska Signal April 2nd, 1959 page 5.
