George Glarborg, age 87, passed away from natural causes June 17, 2012 at the Minidoka Memorial Hospital. He was born in Cotesfield, Nebraska, on the 17th day of January 1925. His parents were Danish immigrants George and Inger Glarborg. George graduated from Aberdeen High School in 1942. Following graduation he enlisted in the Army. He served with 106th Infantry Division as a Medic in the European Theater. He was captured in the Battle of the Bulge and spent over four months as a prisoner of the Germans. He was liberated by the Russian, and spent one month as a prisoner of the Russsians. After George's service in World War II, he returned to attend the University of Idaho. He married Eleanor Steinmann on the 7th day of June, 1947. He received a degree in Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Idaho in 1950. In 1951, he and Eleanor started farming in Ashton, Idaho. During his time in Ashton, he became an active member of Zion Lutheran Church. He served in leadership roles, and was part of the group that helped found Camp Perkins. In 1957 he and Eleanor moved to a homestead in the Kasota area and lived there the remainder of their lives. Not only were they blessed with a new farm, they also joined a new church family. He has been an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Rupert, and he served in many leadership roles over the past 55 years. He enjoyed working on the A & B Irrigation District as a board member. He made many friends golfing and bowling. George is survived by a son, Carl (Marsha) Glarborg; daughters, Chris (Blake) Coats and Karen (John) Cummings; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his sisters: Anna Adamek, Ellen Kranzler and Bernice Jensen; and his brother, Arnold Glarborg. A memorial service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Rupert, Idaho, on Friday, the 22nd of June at 11 am., with Pastor Gerald Rabe officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Memorial Fund for Camp Perkins. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Hansen Mortuary.
