Butler County Press (David City, Nebr.), July 6, 1916, p. 1, col. 7 Fatal Auto Accident. LOMA, July 5- The pleasure of the picnic at Loma last Sunday was marred by an accident in which one young man, Andrew Kabourek, of Dwight, lost his life and three others were badly injured. Mr. Kabourek, in company with Adolf Hakel and James Hotovy of Dwight and John and Tom Bartek and Charles Hruby of Weston, had gone for an auto ride about five o'clock in the afternoon. Mr. Hakel, who is assistant in the State bank at Dwight, was driving the car at a pretty good rate of speed and when about a mile south and a quarter of a mile east of Loma the car skidded on newly graded road and turned completely over twice, landing upright in the road. The car was badly damaged. Mr. Hruby and Mr. Hotovy were uninjured. Medical aid was at once secured and the injured boys were taken to the Bartek home. Mr. Kabourek was unconscious for three hours and died shortly after one o'clock Monday morning. Mr. Hakel sustained serious internal injuries, caused by the steering wheel falling on him. He was taken to an Omaha hospital. Thomas Bartek, who had a hip badly hurt, was taken to the David City hospital. John Bartek sustained a broken collar bone, but was able to drive his own car to his home in Weston. Funeral services for Mr. Kabourek were held in Dwight Wednesday. He was 17 years old on the day of the accident.
