PHILOMENA KABOUREK DIES IN WAHOO… A former Brainard and Dwight woman, Mrs. Philomena D. Kabourek, 77, died April 24, in the Community hospital in Wahoo, 24 hours after she had suffered an attack of heart disease. She had lived with her sister, Mrs. Frank Cech Sr., in Wahoo the past eight months. Her maiden name was Philomena Bartek and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Bartek, resided at Weston when she was born on September 8, 1873. She was reared in that community and lived there until her after her marriage to Wenceslaus Kabourek in 1892. Mr. Kabourek died January 23, 1926 when they were living at Dwight. Eight children survive Mrs. Kabourek, also 18 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. The children include two sons, James J. Kabourek of Washington, D. C., and Joseph Kabourek of Omaha, and six daughters, Mrs. Bohumila Tomes, Mrs. Georgia Tedesco, and Miss Genevieve Kabourek of Omaha, Mrs. Philomene Dosek of Lincoln, Mrs. Barbora Bestgen of Manhattan, Kas., and Mrs. Mary Vasa of Chicago. Two sons, Andrew and Julius, preceded her in death. The sister, Mrs. Cech, is the only surviving member of the Bartek family. All the children and their families were in attendance at the funeral services held in St. Wenceslaus Catholic church in Wahoo April 19 at 9 a.m. Rt. Rev. Msgr. M. W. Nemec was celebrant of the requiem mass, the Rev. Vaclav Sladky of Wahoo was sub-deacon, the Rev. Otto Ekhaml of Weston was deacon and delivered the sermon. Burial was in St. Mary's cemetery, Dwight with the following serving as pallbearers: Philip Bartek of Weston, Ed Cech, Henry Bartek, Bernard Bartek and Joe Novotny of Wahoo, and Ludvik Lavicky of Dwight.
