Joseph was the son of Charles John and Mary Antoinette (Ruzicka) Houdek. He grew up in Butler County, Nebraska where he worked on the farm before his enlistment at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas on August 30, 1944 at the age of 21. PFC CO E 180 INF 45 INF DIV WORLD WAR II PH He was with the 180th Infantry February 1, 1945 to April 18, 1945 when he died in Germany. He was awarded posthumously the PURPLE HEART and COMBAT INFANTRY BADGE. Joseph also has a stone in the Lorraine American Cemetery and Memorial in France.
