Bio
Rita Dorothy Houdek, 80, of Grand Island, formerly of Central City, died Monday, Feb. 8, 2010, at Lakeview Golden Living Center in Grand Island. Rita was born on May 3, 1929, in Dwight to Charles J. and Mary A. (Ruzicka) Houdek. She grew up in the Dwight area and received her education at Butler County Schools. In the mid-1960's, Rita moved with her parents to Central City; and in the early 1980's, Rita went to live in Grand Island. Rita was baptized at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Loma and was a member of St. Luke's until moving to Central City. She then was a faithful attendee at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Central City. Rita enjoyed listening to music, especially polka and she loved birds. Rita will be remembered for always being happy. Those left to cherish Rita's memory are her sister and brothers, Regina and Leonard Fiala of Geneva, Raymond and Adeline Houdek of Chapman, Edmund and Marilyn Houdek of Sedalia, Mo., Marvin and Ann Houdek of Mesquite, Texas and Tom and Ann Houdek of Bedford, Texas; and sister-in-law, Elsie Houdek of Chapman. Rita was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers – Joseph, Jerome, and Charles Houdek; and two sisters – Charlotte Houdek and Margaret Hotovy.
