CIVIL WAR VETERAN (CONFEDERACY) - William Leander Hutson was the oldest of nine children of Granville and Sarah E. (Osborn) Hutson. He was born March 18, 1842 in Virginia. He was 18 years old when he came to Texas. He served four years in the Confederate Army, J. M. Hurt's Company of Co. D, First (Burnetts) Battalion Texas Sharpshooters; enlisted October 1st, 1862 from Grayson County and was in until the close of the war. Applied for a pension, May 22, 1902. The pension was approved September 28, 1907. He married Mary Ferguson probably right after the civil war and they had eight children, Laura Belle, John, Martha, David, William, Albert and Bertie. William died of asthma or heart trouble at 67 years of age on Feb 23, 1907 (date corrected) in Denton County, Texas. [source: Judith S. Hutson, 2000].
