WATMORE, HOWARD *STEVE* AND RUTH L.—Howard “Steve” Watmore was born on Nov. 18, 1906, on a farm near Geneva, to William M. and Alice C. Stephenson Watmore. He passed away July 17, 1999, in Tucson, Ariz. Ruth L. McCashland Watmore was born March 11, 1907, on a farm near Geneva to Charles I. and Elizabeth Ogg McCashland. Ruth passed away Sept. 8, 1992 in Tucson, Ariz. Ruth was the oldest of six children and was a junior at Grafton High School when her mother passed away and she and her younger sister, Doris helped their father take care of the four younger brothers and sisters. Ruth and Steve were married on Sept. 23, 1931, and one son Robert, was born to this marriage. Steve founded the Geneva Transfer Trucking Company in the 1930’s. He continued to operate this business until he enlisted in the Army Air Corp in 1941. He served from 1941 until 1945 in the European Theater. Ruth was employed at the Post Office in Geneva during the war years. Ruth and Steve resided in Geneva until retirement in 1974, during which time he operated sand and gravel business and built numerous homes in and around Geneva. Ruth was employed at Marguerite’s dress shop during this time. In 1981 they moved to Tucson, Ariz., to be near their son and his family. Steve was an avid hunter and fisherman, and in retirement, he and Ruth traveled extensively in their RV throughout the Midwest, west and Canada. Wherever their travels took them, they enjoyed the success of fishing the many lakes and streams they visited. Ruth and Steve are survived by their son, Robert and Dora Jane Watmore; four grandchildren, 4 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; Steve’s brother and sister, Bill Watmore and wife, Ramona, and Mildred Maier; brother-in-law, James Matejka, Ruth’s sister, Phyllis Svatos, and sister-in-law, Florence McCashland; numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside committal services and inurnment of ashes was held at 10:30 a.m., August 7, 1999 from the Geneva Public Cemetery, with Rev. Wanda W. Bennett officiating. Military honors were provided by Sloan-Bolton American Legion Post No. 68 and the Samuel J. Marsh V.F.W. Post No. 7102. McCashland Watmore of Tucson, Az., passed away Monday, September 7, 1992, in Tucson, after a lingering illness. Ruth was born March 11, 1907, to Charles and Elizabeth McCashland in Geneva. She was one of six children. On September 23, 1931, she was united in marriage to Howard S. Watmore, and to this union was born one son, Robert. Ruth was employed at the Post Office in Geneva during World War II and for many years in a lady’s ready-to-wear shop in Geneva. Ruth and her husband, Steve, lived in Geneva until 1971, when they retired and moved to Arizona. Ruth was baptized in the Methodist Church of Geneva, and later joined the Congregational Church of Geneva. Survivors are her husband, Howard S.; son, Robert and wife, Dora Jane of Tucson, Az.; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Doris Stweart of Spokane, Wa., and Phyllis Svatos of York. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Betty Leonard and two brothers, Harold McCashland and Donald McCashland. Family services were held in Tucson, Az.
