Louise Mildred Wagner, 88, of Onawa, Iowa died Friday, April 10, 1992, at a hospital in Onawa. Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 14, 1992 at the United Methodist Church in Turin, Iowa, with Rev David H Wagner officiating. Burial was in Belvidere Cemetery, Turin, Iowa. Louise was born May 25, 1903, in Sioux Township near Moorhead, Iowa to Carl and Meta ( Simonson ) Mortensen. She became motherless at age 7 months and was tenderly cared for by paternal grandparents, Karen and Peder D Mortensen of Moorhead until the age of 9 when her father married Anna Wagner. She then made her home with them. She received her education in Mann School in Sioux Township and later the Hiawatha School in Woods Hollow near Turin. She was baptized and confirmed in the Ingeman Danish Lutheran Church near moorhead and years later transferred her membership to the Methodist Church in Turin to which she remained the rest of her life. On March 4, 1925, she was united in marriage to John H Wagner of Turin in the Methodist parsonage at Onawa, Iowa. To this union five children were born. The couple moved to Turin in 1947 and to Center Heights in Onawa in 1972. They celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in 1975. John passed away on September 3, 1978 and rests at Belvidere Cemetery near Turin. Louise entered Elmwood Care Centre in Onawa in 1988. Louise was active in her church being a life member of WSCS, which later became the UMW. She taught Primary Class in Sunday School for years. For over twenty years, she and her husband were custodian of the church. She became a member of the Ladies Social Economic Club in 1926, working and serving wherever she was needed. She was an avid reader since school days, especially poetry, and composed a number of poems for friends. Her mastery of the piano served Sunday School, Club, Circle, Center Heights functions and later Elmwood. Her first concern was her family and she tried to set an example for her children to live by, and they called her "Blessed". She leaves to mourn her; two daughters, Mrs Leonard (Emma Lou) Stanislav of Onawa and Esther Mae Kenyon of Los Angeles, California, two sons, Kenneth Elmo Wagner of Omaha, NE and Kermit Lee Wagner of Lindsey, California; seven grandchildren, Dr Leon Stanislav of Clarksville, TN, Eileen Berlinger of Omaha, Nebraska, Eva Powell of Boston, MA, Christy and Karen Peterson of Los Angeles, CA, John Wagner of Los. Angeles, California, and Claire Ashley of San Jose, California, five great grandchildren; a half brother and his wife, Peter C and Rosanne Mortensen of Blencoe and a half-sister and her husband, Ida and Jack Springer of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and an infant son, John Andrew. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 14, 1992 at the United Methodist Church, Turin, Iowa with Rev David H Wagner and Rev Duane J Lundberg officiating. The organist was Mrs Paul Petersen and the vocal duet of Mrs Brady Hanson and Mrs Harvey Hanson sang "I Love To Tell The Story" and "Blessed Assurance" Casket bearers were Chris Mathison, Mike Mikkelson, Thayer Brown, Jr, Leo Dean Wagner, Joe Martindale and Duane Fredrickson.
