Kenneth Elmo Wagner was born July 30, 1930, in Wood's Hollow southeast of Turin, Iowa, the son of John Henry and Louise Mildred Mortensen Wagner. Kenneth passed away on July 22, 2012 at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa, reaching the age of 81 years, 11 months, and 22 days. His early life was spent in the Turin area where he received his elementary education, graduating from the Onawa High School in 1948. He then enrolled in Commercial Extension in Omaha, Nebraska majoring in business and accounting, graduating in 1951. He served in the Army during the Korean conflict, receiving an honorable discharge with Marksmanship recognition. In 1957 he left for Houston, Texas with other cousins to seek his fortune. It was at this time he joined the United Pentecostal Church of Houston. On July 18, 1959 he married Carmen Valentine of Hainesville, Louisiana, the daughter of O.R. and Ova Valentine of Cotton Valley, Louisiana. Kenneth retired out of Armco Steel, now known as AK Steel, in 1978. The same year he returned to Iowa and shortly thereafter to Omaha, Nebraska. Here he lived until entering the Nebraska Veterans Home at Norfolk, Nebraska. In 2006 he removed to the Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa where he resided until his death. He was a lifetime member of the D.A.V. He is survived by his siblings, Kermit and Catherine of Vermont, Esther Kenyon of California, and Emma Lou and Leonard Stanislav of Onawa. He cherished his nieces and a nephew, Claire and Greg Ashley, John E. and Bridgette Wagner, Karen McCants, Christy Peterson, Dr. Leon Stanislav, Eileen Galbraith, and Eva Powell. Grand nieces are Alia and Jay Nunn, Kristy Stanislav, Laura Berlinger, and EveAnne Lippold. Preceding Kenneth in death were his parents, a brother John Andrew, a grand niece Amy Jean Stanislav, and wife Carmen. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Monday, July 30, 2012 at the United Pentecostal Church in Onawa, officiated by Pastor Roger Wagner. Visitation will be held 12:00 P.M. – 1:30 P.M. Monday, July 30, 2012 at the church. Interment will be in the Belvidere Cemetery at rural Turin, by his parents. Rush Family Care Service is in charge of arrangements. Kenneth's life was spent living for the Lord each day, his life had been filled with strife, yet he never faltered in his Faith and gathered strength to go on in the face of adversity without complaint, an example to all.
