Bio

Services for Elmer F. Zila, 61, Columbus were held Friday at St. Wensceslaus Catholic Church in Verdigre. The Rev. Ronald Battiato officiated with burial in the parish cemetery. Military honors were by American Legion Post 259 of Verdigre. The son of Joseph and Anna Scharf Zila, he was born February 4, 1921 at Winnetoon and died Monday at an Omaha hospital. He attended District 16 near Winnetoon and Winnetoon High School. Mr. Zila farmed before entering the U.S. Navy in 1942. After his discharge, he attended an electrical school in Milford. For the past 25 years, he was a self employed electrical mechanic in Columbus. Survivors include three brothers, Emil of Colo., George of Winnetoon and Edwin of Wyo.; three sisters, Elsie Sukup of Verdigre, Clara Tharnish of Winnetoon and Ann Fausset of Omaha and nieces and nephews.
