Bio
Lewis Singleton DEAVER, Sr was born January 24, 1807 in Buncombe County, NC to Richard DEAVER (1768-1820) and Mary SINGLETON. (Richard was one of the founders of Buncombe and Haywood Counties.) Lewis married Mary S. CHANDLER on Aug 10, 1831 in Haywood County, NC. Around the late 1850s, they moved to Murray County, GA with other Deaver families, also speanding time in neighboring Polk County, TN. Lewis fought in the 5th Cavalry TN CSA during the Civil War. His wife Mary died 1869 in Tennga, Murray Co, GA and is buried in Liberty Baptist Cemetery at the state line. (Alas, her stone has recently been destroyed by vandals.) Lewis came with his sons to Bell County, TX around 1877 and lived there until his death. When I found Lewis' headstone at the back of this formerly neglected cemetery, it was in fairly bad shape. I had it repaired and cleaned professionally back in 2001, as you can see from the "before and after" photos. This is my favorite entry on findagrave!
