Obituary published in the Herald Coaster on Wed., 22 Oct 1980 Funeral services for Ernest J. Schmidt, 79, of Rosenberg will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Garmany & Carden Funeral Home Chapel in Rosenberg. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Schmidt died Oct. 21 at Polly Ryon Memorial Hospital. He formerly owned a furniture store in Rosenberg and later did upholstery work in a shop at his home. He actively worked in civic affairs in the city during his lifetime. Survivors include his wife, Etta Schmidt; one son, Ernest J. Schmidt Jr. of Sarasota, Fla.; two grandchildren; two brothers, V.L. Schmidt of Freeport and Edward Schmidt of Canyon City; sister, Annie Poncik of Rosenberg. Friends may call after 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Garmany & Carden Chapel in Rosenberg. The family requests memorials be made to the organ fund at First United Methodist Church.
