Bio
Alma Petska, 94, of Elyria passed away Monday, July 9, 2012, at her home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 13, 2012, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord with Fathers Tom Ryan and Mark Maresh officiating. Burial will be in the Ord Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. at the Ord Memorial Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Valley County Health System Hospice or the Kitchen Renovation at Gorak Parish Hall. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Alma Emily was born October 14, 1917 to Frank and Emma (Rejda) Masin on the family farm in the house that her father built in the Eureka Township of Valley County, Nebraska. She was raised on the farm and received her education in a country school and graduated from Ord High School in 1936. Alma received Normal Training and taught school in Valley County before her marriage. On June 28, 1938, she was united in marriage to Emanuel P. Petska at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord. In 1958, they purchased the family farm outside of Elryia where they resided until their passing. Alma was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and the Altar Society. She worked on the Valley County Election Board and was a 4-H Leader and Cub Scout Leader. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, canning and traveling with her husband. Alma was known for making, baking and sharing delicious kolaches and homemade angel food cake. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Ken and Evelyn Petska and Roger and Cheri Petska all of Elyria; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Mary Reeve of Independence, MO, Linda and Melvin Linke of Scotia and Susan and Steve A. Pokorny of Lander, WY; 19 grandchildren; 35 and counting great grandchildren; 6 great great-grandchildren; and one sister and brother-in-law, Viola and Lee Polk of Waverly, NE. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Emanuel who passed away February 8, 2008; a grandson, Shane Petska; grandson-in-law, Josh Espinosa; two sisters, Irene Hayes and Addie Long; a brother, Richard Masin and an infant sister, Lillian Ruth Masin.
