Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, Plasi, Nebr. ''''''' The Ulysses Dispatch , July 28, 1909, p. 3, col. 3 A Fatal Accident On last Saturday evening as Charles Masek, who lives just west of town, had unhitched his horses over on the Kirschner eighty owned by him, one horse became scared and started to run toward the other horses a little ways off, with Mr. Masek hanging on to the horse, which ran with him into the other horses with such force as to so injure him internally that he died Sunday night at the nearby home of Clyde Scott, whither he had been carried. Mr. Masek was 47 yrs. old, a good farmer and citizen, and leaves a wife and a large family of children to mourn their loss. Besides his farms he carried considerable life and accident insurance. The funeral services were held at the Ulysses Catholic church yesterday forenoon, Rev. Father Murphy officiating, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Ulysses Catholic cemetery. '''''''''' The Ulysses Dispatch , August 4, 1909, p. 3, col. 5 OBITUARY - Charles G. Mashek of whose death mention was made in last week's Dispatch, was born in Bohemia 47 years ago. He came to America when quite young and was maried in Saunders county, Neb., in 1887 to Miss Agnes Duffek. To them 12 children were born, 6 boys and 6 girls, ten of whom are living, who, with their mother, mourn the loss of a loving father and affectionate husband. Mr. Mashek had lived in Butler county a number of years, and was an exemplary citizen, honest and upright, faithful to his church and family. Solicitous for the future welfare of his household he carried life insurance in the "Catholic Workman," the N.Y. Mutual Life, and the American Accident Co. Stricken in the prime of life when all seemed fair and beautiful, yet this good man could say, "Not my will but thine, be done." A large number of relatives and friends were present at the funeral at the Catholic church July 27, the Rev. Father Murphy officiating, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery. E. B.
