Cyrus Kade Kelcy/Kelsey was born in Kentucky, but very little is known about him. From census, marriage records and family research it was discovered he was employed as a Brick Mason, Farmer and Teamster delivering supplies to Forts throughout Texas, parts of Arkansas and Mexico. Cyrus was known to use two different spellings for his last name Kelcy and Kelsey. He was married four times and had children using both spellings of his last name. 1st marriage was to Elizabeth Willis on Nov. 30, 1837, in Lowndes County, Mississippi. She was the daughter of Judge William E. Willis and Mrs.Rachel (Spears) Willis. Children born to this union were William Eden and Mary Ann Kelcy. 2nd marriage was to Mrs. Malinda (Cooper) Arnold on March 5, 1845, in San Augustine County, Texas. She was the daughter of Martin and Elizabeth (Davenport)Cooper. Children born to this union were Joseph, Amanda C. and Cyrus King Kade Kelsey. Malinda was previously married to James Arnold and they were the parents of Mary Jane, Susan E., Octavia, James H. and John Nicholas Arnold. 3rd marriage was to Mrs.Lucinda Ann (Mayes) Wright Aug. 20, 1856 in San Marcos, Hays, Texas. It is believed she was the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Meeks) Mayes this has not been proven, yet. Children born to this union were Margaret (Maggie), Samuel H. and John (Bud) Benjamin Kelcy. Lucinda "Lucy" was previously married to Alexander Wright, Sr., they were the parents of Lucy and Alexander Wright, Jr. 4th marriage was to Mrs. Martha Ann (Shelton) Griffith marriage date unknown. No children born to this union Family members have stated Cyrus seemed to abandon his responsibilities to his children after his wive's deaths leaving his children with extended family or neighbors then starting a new family with his next marriage. Cyrus passed away in Texas his death date and burial place are unknown at this time.
