The Greeley Citizen, Thursday, December 29, 1916, pg 5 OBITUARY Lauren Ernest Jeffres, fifth child of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Jeffres, first saw the light of day near Horace, Nebr. on Oct 31, 1892 and on Dec. 20, 1916, he parted this life having reached the age of 24 years 1 month and 19 days. Lauren spent all of his life under his parents roof near Horace. He was seldom ill, but LaGrippe and other complications set in during his week's earthly sojourn which brought on his early death. The deceased was a favorite among children, and was especially attached to the hearts of his parents. He was patient and agreeable to all, and of a sunny and good disposition. He completed the course of studies in the home school, and spent one year in the Friends College at Central City. As a student he excelled in his studies, and most of his leisure was spent in reading good books and periodicals. Lauren Ernest is survived by his parents, three brothers and four sisters. The sisters are: Mrs. Dessie Stichler, Mrs. Bell(sic) Crockett, Nellie and Alice; and the brothers: Louis(sic), Dick and Lynn, all living near Horace. A host of friends and relatives also mourn his loss. A young life has been taken from this community, but his deeds and influence yet live. He will ever be in the loving memory of those who knew him best. The good Lord who Knows all things best is ever near to bless and comfort the loved ones left behind. In Him do we trust in this hour of grief. Funeral services were conducted in the church at Horace by Rev. F. W. Bintz on Dec. 23, 1916, and the body was laid to rest in the cemetery near Scotia. A large concourse of friends and relatives were present. CARD OF THANKS The beraved family of the departed Lauren Ernest Jeffres desire to express their heartfelt thanks to all neighbors who so kindly assisted them during the sickness and funeral of their beloved son and brother by their deeds, words, sacred song and floral offerings.
