Bio

Kearney resident, 77 OMAHA - James Francis Hoffman, 77, of Kearney died Friday, May 21, 2010, at Creighton Medical Center in Omaha. No services are planned. O'Brien Straatmann Funeral Home in Kearney is in charge of arrangements. He was born June 17, 1932, on the family farm in Buffalo County to Otto R. and Alpha (Dwiggins) Hoffman. Survivors include his sisters, Doris Lynch of Kearney and Esther Boots of Alliance; brother, Albert "Bud" Hoffman of Anderson, Ind.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He attended grade school at District 27 in Buffalo County. After the family moved to Kearney, he went on to graduate from high school. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1951 and was honorably discharged in 1955. He returned home to complete his education at Kearney State College in 1958. He traveled many years for the Coca-Cola Co. When he retired because of medical problems, he returned to Kearney, where he enjoyed spending time with his sisters, visiting old friends, playing golf and doing crossword puzzles. He was a member of the Kearney American Legion Post 52. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, William W. "Bill" and Richard O. "Dick" and his wife, Dorothy.
