Bio

Ruby W. Anders was born March 13, 1917 in Smithdale, MS and passed away May 19, 2012 at Old Jefferson Community Care Center in Baton Rouge, LA. She was 95 years old. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend and she will be sorely missed by all that knew and loved her. Visitation will be Monday from 5 PM till 8 PM at Hartman-Sharkey funeral home of McComb with visitation again on Tuesday from 10 AM until service at 11 AM at the funeral home. Rev. Vann Windom will officiate and burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery in McComb. She was a member of West McComb Baptist Church and served as their treasurer for several years. She was severely injured in an automobile accident in 1979 that took the life of her beloved daughter, Gail Starkey. Because of her gratefulness for the care she received during this time, she served as a volunteer Pink Lady at Southwest Regional Medical Center and later served on their board. She retired from South Central Bell in 1979 and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America at the time of her passing. She is survived by her son, James Malcolm Anders (Mac), and his wife Brenda, her grandchildren, Kim Rush and her husband Joseph, Kellie Donahue and her husband Brad, Don Starkey and his wife Molly, Rick Starkey and his wife Penny, and Patricia Root. Her great grandchildren, Nick, Matthew, Megan, Jordan, Cade, Madison, Victoria, Mark and Mary Claire and new one on the way, Caroline Anders Donahue, and her sister, Evelyn Brewer. She was preceded in death by her parents, Guy Williams and Arie Fleming Williams, her husband, Glenn Anders, son, Wayne Anders and her daughter, Gail Starkey and son in-law, Jerry Starkey, her four siblings, Mable Barron, Margaret White, Harry Williams and Woody Williams. We would like to give special thanks to the staff of Old Jefferson Community Care Center and to her nephew and niece, Ron and Cookie White who gave her such special love and care. Pallbearers will be Ronnie White, Jerry Hedgelin, Jim McKinley, Ken Barron, Danny Guy Williams and Kirk Haskins.
