Bio

Ed Kocian, 64, of La Grange, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Ed was born in Hallettsville, Texas on August 17, 1947, the son of the late Edwin A. Kocian, Sr. and Lucille (Matejek) Kocian. He married Virginia Matocha on February 7, 1970 at Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Hostyn. Ed worked as a Program Manager/Budget Manager and Purchaser for the Texas Parks & Wildlife Agency in the law enforcement division. He retired on August 31, 2003 after 30 years and 4 months of state service. He served on many TPWD committees such as the annual Wildlife Expo, Employee Grievance Committee and the Agency Budget Planning Committee. He taught for many years Law Enforcement Records and Reports to several Texas Game Warden Training Academies. His many hobbies included fishing, hunting, gardening, building projects and his cattle ranch business. Ed always did charitable work for his family, friends, neighbors and relatives throughout his entire life and loved every minute of it. Ed was active in his church serving under Father William Halata as a church usher for 10 years, Eucharistic Minister for 5 years, and volunteered on various committees for church bazaars for 10 years. He was a member of the Catholic Family Fraternal of Texas (Plum Society) and was active on the local, district and state levels. He is survived by his wife, Virginia, of 42 years; daughter, Suzanne and husband, Dr. Mitch Revelle, of Round Rock; son, Texas Game Warden Jon Kocian and wife, Amanda, of Victoria; four sisters: Joyce Teel and husband, Danny, of Houston, Linda Polasek and husband, Robert, of Richmond, Joan Robertson and husband, Arlen, of Richmond, and Nancy and husband, Dr. Ron Cochran, of El Campo; brother-in-law, Ray Gerla of El Campo; four grandchildren: Chelsey, Kyle, Aubrey and Olivia; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ed and Margaret Matocha of La Grange; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Kathy Gerla. Visitation 11 a.m. and rosary 7 p.m. Thursday, Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home, La Grange. Services 2 p.m. Friday, Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Hostyn. Burial Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery.
