Bio

Lucille Matejek Kocian, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully Sept. 20, 2009 at the age of 87. She was born on Dec. 28, 1921 in Hallettsville to the late Jaroslav and Louise Trlica Matejek. She was a sales clerk at Oshman's for over 20 years before retiring, and a member of St. Philip Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters of America. Lucille loved cooking, sewing, quilting, and gardening. She is survived by her daughters, Joyce Teel and husband Danny of Houston, Linda Polasek and husband Robert of Richmond, Joan Robertson and husband Arlen of Richmond, Nancy Cochran and husband Dr. Ronald of El Campo; son-in-law, Ray Gerla of El Campo; son, Ed Kocian and wife Virginia of La Grange; sisters, Anita Bohuslav of Hallettsville and Melba Roberts of Maryland; brother, Bill Matejek of Edna; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edwin Kocian; daughter, Kathy Gerla; sister, Gladys Matejek; and brother, George "Doc" Matejek. Visitation will begin 11 a.m. today, with a rosary being recited at 7 p.m., at Triska Funeral Home. The funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2009 at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church with Rev. Gary Janak officiating. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Memorial Park under the direction of Triska Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers are Shawn Teel, Jason Polasek, Jon Kocian, Matthew Robertson, Jack Cochran, and Ray Gerla. Honorary pallbearers are Jeremy Polasek, Wayne Thibodeaux, Dr. Mitchell Revelle, and Carl Priesmeyer. Memorial donations in memory of Lucille Kocian may be made to St. Philip Catholic School.
