Bio

Mary L. Lippert was born on 10 March 1897, in Kandiyohi County, Minnesota, to George and Barbara Stadther Lippert. Mary attended country school in Kandiyohi County. On 29 October 1921, Mary married Emil J. Olson in Olivia. They lived in Lake Lillian and Willmar. After Emil’s death, Mary married James Joseph Serbus on 17 April 1963. Mary and James lived in Olivia where he died on 06 October 1979. Later, Mary lived at the Bird Island Manor and had been a resident of the Olivia Health Care Center for a month prior to her death. She was a past member of the American Legion World War I Auxiliary. Mary L. Lippert (Olson) Serbus, of Olivia, died at the age of 96, on 12 August 1993, at the Olivia Health Care Center in Olivia, Renville County, Minnesota. Mary was survived by her five children from her first marriage, Luverne (Cathy) Olson of Tarzana, California, Lorraine (George) Barta of Olivia, Eugene (Dorothy) Olson of Willmar, Vivian (Bob) Thompson of Spokane, Washington, and Marjorie (Ken) Novotny of Olivia; 19 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; and, sister, Ann Pyke of San Diego, California. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, five brothers, and two grandchildren. Visitation was held on Sunday, 15 August, from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Olivia; with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Mary’s funeral was held on Monday, 16 August 1993, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Olivia. Burial followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Willmar, Kandiyohi County, Minnesota.
