Bio

Marjorie Novotny, age 91, of New London formerly Olivia, MN, passed away on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, December 9, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Olivia with Rev. Joe Steinbeisser as celebrant. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to St. Aloysius Catholic Church. Arrangements are by Dirks-Blem Funeral Service of Olivia. Marjorie Ann Novotny was born on August 21, 1934, to Emil and Mary (Lippert) Olson in Lake Lillian, MN. She graduated from Willmar High School in 1948. Marge met Kenton Novotny at a dance at the Sheep Shedde in Olivia. That night Ken asked Marge on a date; little did they know that their friends were already planning to set the two up on a blind date. They were united in marriage on October 8, 1952, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Willmar. They made their home in Olivia and raised their four sons, Keith, Kurt, Kelly and Ken. Marge worked various positions at the local bank for numerous years, now called FM Bank, before retiring as head teller and auditor; a position that stayed with her throughout her life as she was still handling all of her finances at 89 years old. Marge loved traveling, camping and fishing with her family, crocheting, and playing cards. She had the "gift of gab" – sharing many stories and family histories with those she visited with. Her time living at Traditions in Olivia, Bethesda Sunrise Village in Willmar, and Bethesda North Pointe in New London, brought her new communities of friends to engage in conversation and activities with, which she really enjoyed. Marge was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary and St. Aloysius Catholic Church, participating in many groups and committees throughout the years. She was a devoted Christian woman, praying diligently for her family; her grandchildren knew they could ask her to pray the rosary when special prayers were needed; saying "Grandma it's time to get out the beads." The family could also depend on her for prayers to St Anthony, when an item was lost. Her love and devotion to her family was evident in the way she cared for them and kept up with current events in their lives. Her legacy of love, kindness, and endless selflessness will live on in the lives that she touched throughout the years. Marge is survived by her sons, Kurt (and Teren) Novotny of Willmar, MN and Kelly (and Cathy) Novotny of Prior Lake, MN; her daughter-in-law, Brenda Novotny of Phoenix, AZ; her grandchildren: Cole (and Elena Lunt) Novotny of Ashland, OR, Clay Novotny of Bovey, MN, Tasha (and Chris Kulzer) Novotny of Minneapolis, MN, Marissa Novotny of Minneapolis, MN, Jack (and Allison) Novotny of Nashville, TN, Ellen (and Cole) Graham of Phoenix, AZ, and Olivia Novotny of Germantown, TN; her great-grandchildren: Brynna Novotny, Kenton, Ada, & Zoey Novotny-Kulzer, and David Graham; and many other relatives and friends. Marge was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenton; sons, Keith and Ken; grandson, Chris Novotny; daughter-in-law, Peggy Novotny; and her siblings: Vern, Gene, Vivian, and Lorraine and other relatives and friends. Blessed Be Her Memory Dirks-Blem Funeral Service, Olivia, MN
