Wenatchee World - Wednesday, April 25, 2012 Roy Don Baker Pateros, WA Roy Don Baker was born on January 18, 1930, to Tom and Roxie Baker. Roy was born and raised in Patrick, AR. He grew up working hard on Baker Mountain, where he helped his father with the family farm, cutting lumber, and a tomato cannery. Roy served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He loved and served his country with pride. After his discharge from the Army, he married the love of his life, Lucy Jane Shackelford, on December 22, 1951, in Delany, AR. The family grew with the birth of their three children, Janet, Rodney and Debra. In 1957, they moved the family to Pateros, WA, where Roy was employed at Star Ranch Growers. In 1964, when the Azwell Dam Project was begun and Star Ranch would be flooded, Roy worked for Neff Orchards. In 1970, Roy was employed by Methow Pateros Growers, where he became the Controlled Atmosphere Operator. Roy retired in 1995, and had enjoyed traveling to Arkansas with his adoring wife, Lucy, to spend time with their family. He was always happiest when his children, his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren were at his home. He so enjoyed the many family gatherings to celebrate holidays and family milestones. Roy was preceded in death by his parents; two half-brothers; three brothers; two sisters; and his only beloved son, Rodney Allen Baker.
