Anton J. Chmelka was born on a farm near Plasi, Nebr., on Oct. 17, 1912. He was the son of Mrs. Anton Chmelka and the late August Chmelka. In 1918, when he was six, the family moved to a farm near Bee. Anton lived in or near the Bee vicinity during his entire life, with the exception of the years he spent in the service of his country. Anton was inducted into the U. S. Army on Febr. 25, 1942, at Fort Des Moines, iowa. He served with the 112th and 120th infantry regiments in Florida, North Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, California and Colorado. Later he was transferred to the 565th Quartermaster Railhead company. With this unit he served in France, Germany, the Philippines and Japan. He received his discharge at Fort Logan, Colorado January 11, 1946. Survivors are his grandmother, Mrs. Anna Moravec; mother, Mrs. Anna Chmelka; three brothers, Victor, Louis and Joseph; five sisters, Mrs. Louis (Tillie) Kucera; Mrs. Martin (Emily) Policky; Mrs. Anton (Gertrude) Makovicka; Mrs. Frank (Amelia) Makovicka; and Rosalyn. He leaves a host of relatives and friends. Military funeral services, conducted by the Seward American Legion, were held Friday morning at the St. Vaclav's Catholic church with the Rev. M. Pazourek officiating. Burial was in the family lot at the Catholic cemetery at Bee. The pallbearers, member of the Amercian Legion, were Ronald Sobotka, Raymond Sedlak, Joseph Maca, Gerald Shipley, Ludvik Policky, Jr., and Joseph Hraban, Jr.
