Augustus Spiers Frans obituary from the 12/30/1937 edition of The Kingfisher Times of Kingfisher, Oklahoma, including corrections & editorial clarifications: Augustus Spiers Frans was born in Fremont County, Iowa, January 29, 1852, and departed this life December 24, 1937, at the home of his son, Mr. Claude Clay Frans of Ponca City, Oklahoma, at the age of 85 years, 10 months and 24 days. At 21 years of age, while engaged in mercantile business in Buchanan County, Missouri, he was joined in matrimony with Clara Belle Jones. To this happy union were born five sons and three daughters; two daughters, Mrs. Maude May (Frans) Brower, Mrs. Callie Marie (Frans) Meade, an infant son, and his beloved wife preceding him in death. He leaves to mourn his passing: three sisters, Mrs. Lavina Jane (Frans) Wolfe of California, Mrs. Rosanna Decker (Frans) Cogdill and Mrs. Isabelle F. (Frans) Thomas of Nebraska; five children, Robert Theodore Frans, Villisca, Iowa; William Ambrose Frans, Boone, Iowa; Mrs. Adda Florence (Frans) Jones, Enid, Oklahoma; and Charles Ernest Frans of Belden, Nebraska; 16 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Mr. Frans' life portrayed that of a true pioneer. At the tender age of eleven he accompanied an ox train into the western states, the journey requiring considerable time and the enduring of numerous hardships. In 1892 he moved with his family from Missouri in a covered wagon to the vicinity of Kingfisher, Kingfisher County, Oklahoma, where he established his home. He remained a useful citizen of Kingfisher until a few years ago, when, due to ill health, he went to live with his children. Early in life he accepted Christ, becoming a member of the Baptist church, to which he remained a devout member to the end of his life. Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 26, 1937, at the Baptist church in Kingfisher, Rev. A. F. Whitehurst officiating. Burial was made in Kingfisher Cemetery, with the Trout funeral home of Ponca City being assisted by Bracken funeral home of Kingfisher in the making of arrangements.
