''''''''''''''' The Alliance Semi-Weekly Times , May 12, 1916, p. 1, col. 5 AGED PIONEER DIED AT ELLSWORTH WEDNESDAY Alexander Hill, one of the pioneers of this section, died at the home of his son, A.J. Hill, three miles southeast of Ellsworth, Wednesday morning, due to a former stroke of paralysis and the accompanying infirmities of age. Mr. Hill was one of western Nebraska's earliest citizens, having come to Box Butte county more than thirty years ago. In the interim he has reared a large family and by his thrift and energy secured for himself a success that has meant a comfort in his declining years. While always sturdy and strong, with the passing of his wife some seven years ago, came an unrest that tended strongly to the undermining of his health and preparing of the way for the ailments that had their beginning nearly two years ago and which terminated in his demise. Alexander Hill was born in Belfast county, Ireland, 79 years ago last March and before coming to the west sought first the interests of his country of adoption by answering the roll call as a loyal soldier during the civil war, and the honors of veteran of the memorable conflict hs justly rested on his shoulders since. Five years ago he began his residence with his son at Ellsworth and aside from an occasional visit to Alliance, the scene of his former activities for so many years, he has found a contentment that has been satisfying and no argument of pursuasion [sic] as to the comforts of the city has been successful in having him change his mind. The remains were taken to Alliance Thursday, where after services at the Holy Rosary church, burial was made in the Catholic cemetery. The following sons and daughters remain to mourn his loss: A. J. Hill, Ellsworth; R. J. Hill, Alliance; Mrs. Wm. Moulton, Alliance; Mrs. W. H. Boland, Lents, Oregon; Mrs. B. Reynolds, Lynndyl, Utah; Mrs. M. J. Boland, Lents, Oregon; and Mrs. Wm. Conroy, East Ely, Nevada.
