John H. Heger was born on January 1, 1932 in Weimer, Texas, and passed away on April 8, 2012. He was the oldest son of John F. Heger and Ida (Gold) Heger. John began his long career in banking at the age of eight, sweeping floors in his father's bank in Weimer. He later graduated from Weimer High School, where he enjoyed playing football and baseball and joined Knights of Columbus at the age of eighteen. John then went on to graduate from the University of St. Mary's in San Antonio with a degree in finance. Promptly after graduation from St Marys, he joined the army and was stationed in England for two years. He returned to Houston and began his career at Highland State Bank in 1957. He soon married Janet Svrek on August 15, 1958 until her decease on December 21, 1991. He later met Mary Ruth Perry of Katy Texas and they were married on April 17th,1999. He was currently employed as Senior Vice President of Allegiance Bank Texas and was highly respected and loved in the banking industry. John enjoyed many sports, including football, baseball and golf. He was very involved in the community and a long time member of Veterans of Foreign War and the Lions Club of Memorial. A member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church for 40 years, and was also on the Board of Directors at John Paul II Catholic School. He recently joined St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Katy. John is survived and beloved by many family members including wife Mary Ruth Heger; sister Patricia Zatopek and husband Harvey of La Grange; sister Jane Untermeyer and husband Joe of Houston; brother George Heger and wife Gail of Granger; and brother James Heger and wife Molly of Weimer. John is also survived by Lori and Ralph Haney, and his grandchildren Garret and Abby of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan; Todd and Lara Jayne Perry, and grandchildren Morgan and Bryant of Katy. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. on Thursday April 12, 2012 in the Memorial Oaks Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday April 13, 2012 in the St. John Vianney Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Memorial Oaks Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made to Houston Memorial Lions Club where they will be given to Lions Camp for Handicapped Children in Kerrville, Texas.
