Self, Elijah Houston Obit Melissa – Services for Elijah Houston Self, 83, will be Saturday at 2 pm in Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel in McKinney with the Revs. Calvin Ussery and Mac Pope officiating. Burial will be in Wilson Chapel Cemetery. Mr. Self died Thursday in North Texas Medical Center, McKinney. He was born Sept. 18, 1909, in Collin county to Felix Oliver and Hattie Love Self. He married Julia O. Umstead Sept. 22, 1932, in McKinney. He was a machinist for Intercontinental Manufacturing, and also a farmer. He was a member of Dunn Memorial Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife Julia of Melissa; sons Houston of McKinney, Marvin of Greenville and Gerald of Melissa; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; brothers Raymond and William (Alton) of Garland, Dick of Euless, Wilson (Sam) of Wylie and Bill of McKinney; sisters Ruth McGee of Garland, Irene Mack of Atlanta, Louise Barron of Blue Ridge, Mary Chandler of Melissa and Beatrice Brewer of Wylie. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Kenneth Paul, brothers O.J. (Shorty) and Felix Paul, and granddaughter Karen Lynn Self.
