Mrs. Loma Mays was born February 21, 1913 to William Harris and Effie Hairston LaRue in Lovelady, Texas and died April 6, 2012. Burial in Crawford Cemetery was under the direction of Bailey & Foster Palestine. Mrs. Mays married Aubra Mays in Lake Charles, Louisiana on Thanksgiving Day Nov. 29, 1934. She taught school for fifty years, forty-one of those years in the Slocum School District and the other nine in Liberty Hill and Glover Schools in Houston County. In addition to teaching public school, she also taught Sunday School in the Methodist Church where she also served as a treasurer of the Methodist Church, which is a part of the Slocum Union Church of Slocum. Mrs. Mays also served many years as secretary treasurer of the Perpetual Care Fund of the Crawford Cemetery Association of Slocum. She is survived by son Larry Lee Mays and wife Marilyn; grandchildren, Larry Todd Mays and wife Jessica, Bryan Lee Mays and wife Shontel, and Lorrie Joyann Mays Moreno and husband Raymond; great grandchildren, Hayden, Landrie, Aubrey, and Ragan; brothers, Gordon LaRue, Odie LaRue, John H. LaRue, and Bill LaRue and wife Betty. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers, Glover and W.T. "Doc" LaRue, two infant brothers; and sister, Lorene LaRue Hibbetts.
