John Ruben Thomas was born 9 April 1889 in Texas to George D. and Alice A. Self Thomas. He married Elizabeth Herron 1 February 1920, and they had seven children named John Lavern, Myrtle Ruth, Billy Wayne, Troy Gene, Ira G., Clay E., and Doris Nell Thomas. John Ruben Thomas died 21 January 1961 in Hopkins County, Texas. He was buried in the Nelta Cemetery in Hopkins County, Texas.
