She was the daughter of Abraham Sudderth and Nancy Brown. She married James Drummond Shiels. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Leonard Graphic, Leonard, Texas, Friday, 27 Mar 1953 All Leonard residents are saddened this week as they mourn the passing of a pioneer resident and Leonard's oldest citizen, Mrs. Charlotte Jane Sudderth Shiels, who passed away at her home Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 following a lingering illness. Mrs. Shiels would have been 98 years of age on April 5th. She was born in Wood county, Texas, April 5, 1855, and moved to Fannin county as a small child with her parents, Abraham and Nancy Brown Sudderth. She was married to James Shiels, a native of Glasgow, Scotland, on February 10, 1976 (?). Mr. Shiels came to Texas in 1872. She was the mother of six children and was preceded in death by her husband and four sons. Services were conducted at the Leonard Methodist Church Thursday afternoon at 3:30 pm with the Rev. John F. Anderson, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, of Dallas, officiating. He was assisted by the Rev. Otis Swisher, pastor of the Leonard Presbyterian church of which she was a member and Rev. A. R. Morgan, pastor of the Leonard Methodist Church. Pallbearers were R. Tefteller, A. H. Price, C. N. London, Biff Connelly, John M. Heard and Sherman Latimer. Names as honorary pallbearers were elders and deacons of the Leonard Presbyterian church and the First Presbyterian church of Dallas, and Edd Norris and Joe F. Hall of Leonard. Burial was in the Leonard cemetery with arrangements in charge of Wilson Funeral Home. Survivors include two sons, F. A. Shiels, Leonard, and Robert T. Shiels, of Dallas; 4 grandsons, T. D. Shiels and E. F. Shiels, of Dallas, R. T. Shiels, Jr. , of Fort Worth and George J. Shiels, of Stephensville; three great grandchildren, Robert M. Shiels, and Frank W. Shiels, of Stephensville and Mrs. W. S. Van Cleave of Shreveport, La,; one great-great grandson, Christopher Shiels Van Cleave of Shreveport.
