Bio

Leonard Palensky Sr., 88, of David City died Thursday, March 8, 2012, in a house fire in David City. He was born Dec. 23, 1923, in Prague to Charles L. and Anna (Svoboda) Palensky. He attended District 73 in Rescue through the eighth grade and received his GED at age 64. He married Goldiemae Manzel on Feb. 5, 1945, at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Abie and they farmed in Saunders County. He served in the U.S. Army from Jan. 26, 1946, to Dec. 17, 1946. He moved to David City in 2007 and was a member of the American Legion and Assumption Catholic Church. He was a member of the Heritage Club. Survivors include: his children, Connie (Duane) Svoboda of David City, Tom (Loretta ) Palensky of David City, Julie Chmelka of David City, Ron (Tracy) Palensky of Linwood, Tammy Ehrich of Fremont, Carmen (Kevin) Browman of David City and Pete (ReNee) Palensky of Schuyler; son-in-law, Jerome Jakub of Columbus; 31 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; brother, Charles "Chuck" (Sue) Palensky of Omaha; sister, Geraldine Vanek of Omaha; sister-in-law, Irene Palensky of David City. He also was preceded in death by a daughter, granddaughter and grandson. The funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in David City. Visitation will be 2-6 p.m. Sunday and 9-10 a.m. Monday, all at the church. A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Sunday at the church. Burial will be in the Assumption Catholic Cemetery at Appleton, rural David City. Svoboda Funeral Home of Schuyler is in charge of arrangements.
