Bio

Geraldine Mae Vanek (Palensky), was born on the family farm S.E. of Abbey, Nebraska, to Charles and Anna Palensky (Svoboda). She lived a simple yet rewarding life with her three brothers Milo, Leonard, and Charles Jr. She loved her family very much. Geraldine attended a one room school house through the 8th grade. Then graduated in 1947, from Prague High School in Prague, NE. It was during high school that Geraldine met the love of her life, Bernard Vanek. He competed for her affections using his schoolboy charm, pulling her hair and shoving her in the hall. True Love!! After falling in love, immediately upon graduating high school, they were married, on August 12, 1947, at the church in Abbey, NE. Settling on a farm outside of Prague NE. They began living their dream of raising a family. Three of their six children were born in these early years, Elizabeth, Patricia, and Bernard Jr. Then moving to Omaha they had three more children to love, Mark, Anna, and Gerald. Their lives were full and rich with the joys of parenthood and inspiring their children with a devotion to the Catholic faith. When her beloved husband, Bernard, passed at an early age, Geraldine’s unwavering faith in God, along with her strength and courageous spirit, carried her forth. She learned to drive, ran the family business and volunteered for church functions. With the love and support of her family, she enjoyed traveling and spending time with her 17 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Geraldine is loved, cherished and will be remembered by all who knew her. Preceded by: Husband: Bernard R.
