Judy Jakub, 61, of Columbus, died Sunday, Oct. 10, 2010, at the Columbus Community Hospital following a long battle with ovarian cancer. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Columbus. Burial will be in the Schuyler Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, at the church, with a 7 p.m. rosary. Visitation will resume at the church at 9 a.m. on Thursday. Judy was born Sept. 22, 1949, in Columbus, to Leonard and Goldiemae (Manzel) Palensky. She attended Saunders County rural grade school and graduated from Aquinas High School in David City in 1967. On April 22, 1972, she married Jerome Jakub at St. Isidore Catholic Church and they made their home in Columbus. Judy worked for Dale/Vishay Manufacturing, and she worked at Fast Mart and other convenience stores in Columbus. She was a partner in the Little Village Cake Shop and she taught Cake Decorating classes at Central Community College in Columbus. Judy loved Christmas, cake decorating, riding her ATV, driving the Mustang, bowling, black licorice and playing slot machines at the casino. Judy is survived by her husband, Jerome, of Columbus; son, Jason, of Lincoln; her father, Leonard Palensky, of David City; four sisters, Connie (Mrs. Duane) Svoboda, of David City, Julie Chemelka, of David City, Tammy Ehrich, of Fremont, and Carman Jorgensen, of David City; four brothers, Leonard, Jr. (Loretta) Palensky, of David City, Ron (Tracy) Palensky, of Linwood, Tim (Lisa) Palensky, of Columbus, and Pete (Re'Nee) Palensky, of Schuyler; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She is preceded in death by her mother, Goldie. (September 22, 2010).
