Bio

Funeral services for L.Z. Jaynes, 88, of Valley Mills, were held Tuesday, April 23, 2004, at First Baptist Church of Valley Mills, the Rev. John Wheatley officiating. Interment followed at the Valley Mills Cemetery. Jaynes died Saturday, April 10, 2004, at her residence. She was born Nov. 5, 1915, in the Patton community, the daughter of George W. and Mattie E. (Alexander) Cole. She married Carl Jaynes on May 14, 1935, Waco. He preceded her in death in 1999. The couple owned and operated Jaynes Department Store in Valley Mills for 26 years. She was a member of Valley Mills First Baptist Church and the Eastern Star. Jaynes was preceded in death by a sister, M.E. Ekrut; and two brothers, Vernon Cole and Earl Cole. She is survived by two daughters, Carlene Jaynes of Valley Mills, and Nancy Hudson of San Jose, Calf.; two sons, Douglas Jaynes of Skillman, N.J., and Maurice Jaynes of Plano; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Foss Funeral Home, Valley Mills, was in charge of arrangements.
